ABSTRACT

Heart rate variability (HRV) is the difference between the successive changes in the heartbeat cycle, and it is produced in the autonomic nervous system modulation of the sinus node of the heart. The HRV is a valuable indicator in predicting the sudden cardiac death and arrhythmic events. Traditional analysis of HRV is based on a multielectrocardiogram (ECG), but the ECG signal acquisition is complex, so we have designed an HRV analysis system based on photoplethysmography (PPG). PPG signal is collected by a microcontroller from human's finger, and it is sent to the terminal via USB-Serial module. The terminal software not only collects the data and plot waveforms, but also stores the data for future HRV analysis. The system is small in size, low in power consumption, and easy for operation. It is suitable for daily care no matter whether it is used at home or in a hospital.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on expression of intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in brain tissues following traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rats. Methods Sixty male SD rats weighing 220-250 g were randomly divided into three groups (n =20 for each):sham operation group,TBI group, and IPC group.Cerebral IPC models were induced by transient occlusion of the bilateral common carotid arteries; TBI models were induced by Feeney's freefalling method; rats in sham operation group were only performed exposure of dura of the right parietal lobe.Ten rats were sacrificed respectively at 6 and 72 hours after TBI and injured brain tissues were harvested to estimate wet/dry weight (W/D) ratio for the brain, determine ICAM-1 expression by immunohistochemistry and perform microscopic examination. Results Brain W/D ratio was significantly increased in TBI group compared with sham operation group (6 h:4.2 ± 0.4 vs 2.7 ± 0.4 ; 72 h:5.0 ±0.1 vs 3.1 ± 0.2,P < 0.05).ICAM-1 expression was up-regulated in TBI group compared with sham operationgroup (6h:25.4±3.5vs8.6±1.3; 72 h:36.5±5.4 vs8.4±1.6,P<0.05).W/D ratio was significantly decreased in IPC group compared with TBI group (6 h:3.5 ±0.6 vs 4.2 ±0.4; 72 h:3.7 ± 0.4 vs 5.0 ± 0.1,P < 0.05).ICAM-1 expression was down-regulated in IPC group compared with TBI group (6 h:16.5 ± 2.7 vs 25.4 ± 3.5 ; 72 h:24.3 ± 4.6 vs 36.5 ± 5.4,P < 0.05).Milder injury to brain tissues was observed in IPC group than in TBI group. Conclusion IPC can attenuate TBI in rats by down-regulating the expression of ICAM-1.

ABSTRACT

Objective To establish a standardized management system and process for teaching ward rounds of clinical practice,so as to improve the quality of clinical practice. Methods (1) We established the system and process for teaching ward rounds. (2) The students of 2008 grade were divided into two groups. The new system and process for teaching ward rounds was used in 71 students in the experimental group, and the primary teaching ward rounds system was used in 72 students in control group. (3) A survey concerned about students' abilities of grasping theoretical knowledge, clinical thinking, self-study, clinical operation and doctor-patient communication were investigated in both students and their tutors. Result The result showed that the abilities of grasping theoretical knowledge, clinical thinking,self-study,clinical operation and doctor-patient communication in the experimental group were enhanced much more than the control group ( <0.01) . Conclusion The standardized management system and process for teaching ward rounds of clinical practice can improve the students, comprehensive abilities and the quality of clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

The effect of hydrazine on blue membrane was investigated by the UV/VIS absorption spectrum technique and the flash photolysis technique, the results show that: hydrazine can convert blue membrane to purple membrane and the photocycle returns, but the rate of decay of photcycle intermediate(M412) quickens, this phenomenon is not seen when metal cations are added to blue omembrane solution(the rate of decay of photcycle intermediate slowers). At the same time , the effect of pH and temperature on the interaction between hydrazine and blue membrane was investigated. When hydrazine was added to blue membrane solution, the sensitivity of the reaction is pH and temperature dependent. Over the pH range(2~4.8), the sensitivity of the reaction lowers with the increase of the acidity. Over the temperature range(20~40℃), the sensitivity of the reaction lowers with the increase of the temperature.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the reliability of the modified lateral transgluteal approach (modified Bauer approach) to the hip for the joint prosthesis.Method The Bauer approach modification was used for 43 hip endoprosthetic replacement. Results The modified approach provided good exposure of the hip for arthroplasty, and early chance of function recovery.Excellent and good rate was 96.97% according to Harris result evaluation. No evidence of weakness of abductors of the hip and damage to superior glouteal nerve was found at six months. Conclusion The modified Bauer approach is reliable and recommendable for primary hip replacement because of its good exposure of the hip and the least disturbance to the abductor function.

ABSTRACT

AimTo explore the kinetic change of the IgG,T-cell subsets and IL-2 level from the mice infected with T. Spiralis. Methods The level of specific IgG A band IL-2 was determined by ELISA,the percentage of CD4+and CD8+ T-cells were examined by flow cytometry on 7, 14,21,28,35 days after mice infected with T. spiralis respectively. ResultAfter infected with T. spiralis, the level of IgG in mice rised gradually, and reached its peak on the 35th day. The change of T-cell subsets showed that CD4+T cells decreased, which CD8+Tcells increased. The ration of CD4+/CD8+cells decreased, and which was the obvious on the 14thday. It did not recover to normal level even on the 35th day. The IL-2 of level reached the peak on the 7th day after infected, then IL-2 level decreased quickly and lower than that of normal mice on 35th day after infected. Conclusion When the acute phase of T. spiralis infection, the immune function of host was inhibited. The protective immunity of against T. spiralis infection was cellular immunity mainly ,in cooperation with humoral immunity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the immune response induced by the mice immunized with Trichinella spiralis(T.spiralis) adult worm soluble antigen(AWSAg). Methods T.spiralis AWSAg was prepared to immunize Kunming strain mice. Dynamic changes of IgG, IL 2 and T lymphocyte subsets from immunized mice were determined after challenge infection on d 7, d 14 , d 21 , d 28 and d 35 . Results On d 7 after challenge infection, IgG and CD4 + T cells of immunized group were markedly elevated and persisted higher over the observation period. In contrast, CD4 + T cells and CD4/CD8 ratio were significantly decreased in unimmunized group resulted from immune suppression after infection. IL 2 levels reached the peak on d 7 and persisted in high level from d 7-d 21 in both immunized and unimmunized group after infection, then decreased gradually. Till 35 days after infection, IL 2 level was still higher than the normal mice. Conclusion Mice immunized with AWSAg of T. spiralis produced a potential cellular and humoral immune response.

ABSTRACT

The cultivation of communication skill of anesthesiology medical students has already become a request as time developing. Not only it accommodates the request of medical model and society development to cultivate the communication skill of anesthesiology medical students from the aspect of strengthening their self-confidence and pride, global consciousness and international view, catholicity and humanity as well as cognitive ability, but also embodies the requirement of anesthesiology anthropo-culture.So there should be pertinent measures to cultivate the communication skill of anesthesiology medical students.
